I've been thinking recently about a dirty little habit of mine. No I don't smoke or do drugs or have any serious addictions (apart from my daily Starbucks). Nope, my habit is that I harbour knowledge.
I'm not going to qualify how or what I know here but just voice that I'm torn between sharing or keeping it to myself. I guess I just don't like the idea of someone using information I put out there to benefit themselves. Is it selfish? Probably. Is it smart? I can't decide. If you knew the best way to do something, or had a theory that you didn't have time to test yourself, would you want to share it with the world, or would you keep it to yourself until you were ready to use that information yourself. Or perhaps you know a trick, a secret back door or a way to beat the system, you could gain respect and popularity by sharing, but how long before everyone knows the secret and is using the same trick, your "way to beat the system" is no longer insider knowledge and is blocked to prevent exploitation. This is my dilemma.Always thought these two sounded similar so I knocked something up. (Actually I knocked it up a few years ago, but just trying to consolidate blogs, hence the repost)
Sainsbury's recently introduced printing Point of sale loyalty vouchers and mobile top up vouchers.
Tesco print lottery tickets on till receipts and know online what your favourite in store purchases are. Starbucks know you're registered online and give you discounts like free extras. Opens up a world of marketing possibilities!
